Press Release Summary: "First Flag Raising" on November 11th is the first step in building a lasting Memorial
Press Release Body: Organizers of the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial announced today that they will hold a "First Flag Raising" at the future site of the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial. This is the first step in building a lasting memorial for those from Eden Prairie who have served in the United States Military. The group has raised 1/3rd of the $300,000 it will need to build the memorial at Purgatory Creek Park and will celebrate that achievement at the "First Flag Raising". "We are very proud to have reached this goal so quickly. The generosity of this community to honor those who have served is overwhelming", said John E. Mallo, Chairperson of the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial. The November 11th Veterans Day event will begin at 11:00 am at Purgatory Creek Park with Eden Prairie Mayor Phil Young master of ceremonies. Also on hand to highlight the importance of the memorial to the community, will be State Representative Maria Rudd and State Representative Erik Paulsen, as well as Senator David Hann who is a Vietnam Veteran. The ceremony will honor three Eden Prairie Veterans whose unselfish sacrifices give the very meaning to this memorial. Reuel Long, a World War II Veteran and escaped POW; Tim Sather who received 2 Purple Hearts in Vietnam and Tyler Fey who served 2 tours in Iraq and was killed in Anbar Province will be honored. "These 3 individuals as well as all our Veterans make this project what it is and why we are doing this", said Mallo. "We have to make sure that we stop and remember those who served". Fundraising efforts continue. More information on the Memorial, including the proposed plan and the "First Flag Raising" can be found at: epveteransmemorial.org. Remember Your Veterans.
